PATCHBOX – Intelligent Structured Cabling Systems for Rack Cabinets
In modern data centers and corporate server rooms, traditional patch cable management generates significant time costs and increases the risk of downtime. PATCHBOX is a revolutionary cable management system that completely eliminates cable clutter (commonly known as "cable spaghetti") in network and telecommunications racks.
Thanks to its patented retractable cassette technology, PATCHBOX replaces traditional horizontal and vertical cable managers, transforming chaotic installations into a perfectly organized and transparent IT infrastructure. At Esus IT, you will find complete systems as well as replacement components, including PATCHBOX Plus+ and PATCHBOX 365 solutions designed for infrastructures of every size.
Key Features and Technological Innovations of PATCHBOX Solutions
PATCHBOX systems are not merely an aesthetic enhancement – they are advanced engineering tools that redefine the standards of working with 19-inch server racks.
Automatic Cable Cassettes with Retractable Mechanism (Pulse System)
The heart of every system is a set of independent cassettes containing factory-tested patch cables. The cables extend precisely to the length required to connect a switch port with a patch panel or server. Any unused cable length is automatically retracted into the cassette. This solution completely eliminates the need for manual cable bundling, tying, or storing excess cable slack.
Up to 50% Faster LAN Infrastructure Installation and Maintenance
The standardization introduced by PATCHBOX significantly reduces the time required for installation, diagnostics, and hardware replacement, such as switch upgrades during infrastructure modernization projects. Network administrators can reconfigure connections without the risk of accidentally disconnecting neighboring ports. This translates directly into shorter maintenance windows and lower operational costs.
Optimized Airflow and More Efficient Server Cooling
Hanging bundles of cables often block the front or rear space inside a rack, severely restricting airflow. PATCHBOX frees up ventilation pathways, allowing cool air to reach server intakes more effectively while enabling hot air to be expelled efficiently. This reduces component operating temperatures, lowers air conditioning energy consumption, and extends the lifespan of expensive networking equipment.
Flexible Configuration – Shielded STP Cables, Unshielded UTP Cables, and Fiber Optics
The system adapts to the technological requirements of your network. We offer cassettes equipped with:
- Cat.6 UTP/STP copper cables supporting transmission speeds up to 1 Gbps.
- Cat.6A UTP/STP copper cables optimized for 10 Gbps network environments.
- SingleMode and MultiMode fiber optic patch cords designed for ultra-fast backbone connections.
Why Invest in PATCHBOX? Benefits for IT Departments
- Improved Reliability and Signal Stability: PATCHBOX cables are protected from sharp bends, excessive stress, and mechanical strain caused by gravity. This ensures optimal transmission performance and minimizes the risk of packet loss throughout the entire lifecycle of the installation.
- Maximum Rack Space Utilization (U): Eliminating traditional cable management panels frees up valuable rack units that can be used for additional servers, switches, or UPS systems.
- Modern Design and Easier Network Audits: A clean and organized appearance allows for immediate identification of connections and simplifies security audits, compliance checks, and network certification processes.
Guide & FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About PATCHBOX Systems
1. What is the difference between PATCHBOX Plus+ and PATCHBOX 365?
The main differences are the physical dimensions and the maximum usable cable length. PATCHBOX Plus+ features a deeper design and offers patch cables with a usable length of up to 1.7 meters, making it suitable for full-size floor-standing racks up to 42U–47U. PATCHBOX 365 is a compact solution intended for shallower wall-mounted cabinets, mounting frames, and smaller server rooms, offering cable lengths of up to 0.8 meters.
2. Can different cassette types be mixed within the same PATCHBOX frame?
Yes. The PATCHBOX mounting frame, which typically occupies only 1U or 1.5U of rack space, allows complete configuration flexibility. Within a single frame, you can install Cat.6A STP cassettes, unshielded UTP cassettes, and fiber optic modules side by side. The system is fully modular.
3. Does the retractable mechanism damage or stretch the cable?
No. The cassette and spring-loaded mechanism are specifically engineered to comply with the permissible bending radius requirements of twisted-pair copper cables and delicate fiber optic strands. The cables move along dedicated guide channels, protecting them from micro-damage and conductor deformation.
4. Do PATCHBOX cables support Power over Ethernet (PoE)?
Yes. All patch cables used in PATCHBOX copper cassettes, including both Cat.6 and Cat.6A variants, are fully compatible with PoE, PoE+, and PoE++ standards (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt). They support the simultaneous transmission of data and power for switches, wireless access points, VoIP phones, and IP cameras.
